Shasta County Kids Need a Boost
A Law Firm Responds to Local School Booster Seat Needs
REDDING, Calif. -- A Redding, Calif. law firm will provide booster seats to more than 500 Shasta County children Friday in response to concerns from local school officials that too many of their students ride to and from school campuses without adequate safety seats.
Attorney Russ Reiner, founder of the Reiner, Simpson, Slaughter & Wood, LLP law firm founded the event after school leaders said children are at risk on the roads.
Reiner said, “When I found out that many local children the same age as my two grandkids ride without booster seats, we knew we had to do something to make a difference. We have seen many cases where children have been severely injured or killed because they were not using proper safety seats.”
Jeff Harris, principal at North Cow Creek elementary school in Palo Cedro, said the new booster seat campaign is a great help to the school since the entire school district relies on private transportation for children to get to and from school. North Cow Creek School has been a public school for more than 100 years and has never had a bus.
Harris said field trips for the school are particularly difficult because some families cannot afford proper safety seats. Recently, North Cow Creek school had a field trip for its entire 300-student population and they had to take special steps to ensure that children were going to be transported safely.
The event starts at 2 PM in the Reiner, Simpson, Slaughter & Wood parking lot at 2851 Park Marina Drive, Redding. The event will continue until 7 PM.
